Early the next morning, the commotion in the next room woke Fu Ying. When she looked, Mom Fu was no longer by the bed, presumably having heard the stir caused by the visiting relatives and gotten up first.
Fu Ying got up as well, first opening her luggage to find her toothbrush and face towel. There was no time to tidy the rest for now, so she went to wash up first.
Passing the next room, sure enough, four or five women around Mom Fu's age were sitting on a long bench chatting. Fu Ying didn't know what to call them, and recognizing a few vaguely while fearing she might address them incorrectly, she simply decided not to enter and brushed her teeth outside.
