Perhaps it was grief over her grandfather's sudden passing, or anger at Fu Ying for staying out all night, or the realization that Sixth Uncle was mostly laissez-faire about them anyway—but after the traditional seven-day mourning period for her grandfather, Mom Fu packed up Fu Ying and Fu Zhe and took the bus directly to Guangdong Province to start middle school.
And so, in 2008, Fu Ying and Fu Zhe arrived in Guangdong for the second time. The first time had been at the end of 2007, for the 2008 Spring Festival.
No one ever brought up the matter of grandfather again, and Fu Ying had no desire to mention it and reopen Mom Fu's wound.
