Within the Four Major Principles, "Hatsu" is divided into six Nen categories: Enhancement, Emitter, Transmutation, Manipulator, Conjurer, and Specialist. Due to differences in individual aptitude, personality, and upbringing, everyone belongs to a different category. People can easily master Nen abilities within their own category, while abilities from other categories are difficult to acquire. The further a category is from one's own, the harder it is to master. The two categories situated diagonally across from each other are the hardest to learn simultaneously, whereas adjacent categories are the easiest to train (with the exception of the Specialist category).
