He stared at the amber-colored crystal the old man had just retrieved from a safe; a lingering system warning flashed across his retinas. "This is the primordial form of the Quantum Storage Unit." The old man’s liver-spotted wrists trembled as the crystal refracted a strange spectrum of light in his palm. "Miss Su’s memory fragments are sealed within the eleventh-dimension fold." A screech of brakes echoed from outside the shop. Lin Mo’s temples throbbed; Chen Hao’s surveillance drone was circling three blocks away. Instinctively, he reached for his left ring finger—the three-dimensional brand where his wedding ring should have been was now nothing but a pale scar.
