Chapter 16

"Can you really get the team members out of here safely?"
The man's voice came again:
"There is a very high probability that everyone will survive."
"Because I will protect you and be with you."
"Is that so?" How could the other person claim there was a high probability of total survival when even she couldn't manage it?
Could it really be a god descending among mortals?
"Kill that Dream Demon. It betrayed the great Dream Demon clan and actually colluded with humans."
Semo pointed toward Wang Xiaowei's location and gave the order to the Black Three-Headed Hound.
All three heads of the Black Three-Headed Hound showed bewildered expressions.
That direction was packed with Dream Demons—which one was it, exactly?
The rest of the Dream Demons all pointed at Wang Xiaowei.
"It's him!"
"It's him!"
"That's him!"
The Black Three-Headed Hound let out a furious roar and charged toward Wang Xiaowei.
Wang Xiaowei started to panic a little. "Hurry up, or we're all going to die here."
Chris looked at Wang Xiaowei not far away and quickly recognized him: "It's you?"
"Yes! Hurry up." Wang Xiaowei could no longer keep up his act as a mystic sage; he dashed forward in a single bound right in front of Chris.
"Huh? Did Wang Xiaowei drop offline?"
Dima noticed with some curiosity that the Violet Team's roster had dropped to nine members.
"Little Brother Wei is helping the Rose Elite Team, so he chose to temporarily leave the party."
After a brief mental exchange with Wang Xiaowei, Sister Lina replied to team leader Dima.
"Absolute Protection from the Heavens!"
Wang Xiaowei let out a mighty roar, casting Chris's signature skill.
Meanwhile, Chris and the others behind Wang Xiaowei swallowed the medicinal pills he handed them and began to sit cross-legged to restore their magic power and stamina.
These pills had all been distributed to him by Li Xiaowan, an herbal alchemist. He hadn't used a single one from start to finish and had saved them all.
After all, Wang Xiaowei only stepped in during moments of crisis and spent most of his time coasting, so he hadn't needed to take any pills.
Now, they could be put to perfect use for the members of the Rose Elite Team.
As for Wang Xiaowei, he replaced Tom, the deputy tank of the Rose Elite Team, becoming the team's second epic-tier Main Tank.
"From now on, we no longer prioritize killing the Three-Headed Hounds.
Change the strategy: prioritize killing the Dream Demons.
We have two Main Tanks, and our goal is the number one spot in the Novice Academy."
The other eight members of the Rose Elite Team stared at Wang Xiaowei as if looking at a monster. They never expected that this Spirit Contract Master with a Gray Talent would come with a skill like Perfect Replication.
Wang Xiaowei had perfectly replicated Chris's skills and talent.
Compared to Chris, he was not inferior in the slightest, completely blocking the attacks of the Black Three-Headed Hound.
Most importantly, Wang Xiaowei was at full stamina and could hold out for at least twice as long.
Only then did Chris believe Wang Xiaowei's guarantee.
Now that the team had two epic-tier Main Tanks, combined with the assistance of the medicinal pills, there really was a chance that everyone could survive.
After resting for a moment, they began to attack the Dream Demons.
Red-Talent output was simply different.
Jill unleashed a string of curses upon the Dream Demons, followed by a barrage of Arcane Missiles, artillery shells firing in continuous precision shots, black poisoned darts flying one after another, and an endless stream of protruding icicles.
A single round of attacks killed more than thirty Dream Demons.
Seeing this, all the Dream Demons scrambled to the very back, leaving the Three-Headed Hounds to take the brunt of the frontline.
"Move aside, move aside, you bunch of idiots!"
Whenever the Black Three-Headed Hound's triple strike drove Wang Xiaowei back, other Three-Headed Hound grunts would shove their way to the front, leaving the Black Three-Headed Hound stuck in the rear cursing angrily.
"Continue attacking the Dream Demons! If you can't reach the Dream Demons, attack the Black Three-Headed Hound!"
After casting Absolute Protection from the Heavens once more, Wang Xiaowei resumed issuing commands.
They had already grown used to Wang Xiaowei's pushy familiarity.
The five Red-Talent damage dealers began launching a frenzied assault on the Black Three-Headed Hound.
This made the Black Three-Headed Hound even angrier.
Whenever any hound tried to squeeze in front of it, the Black Three-Headed Hound would bite it and toss it aside, yet more hounds immediately filled the gap.
"Idiots, you're all a bunch of idiots!"
"I'm going to be driven to death by my own spirit pets."
"Awooo—I really want to bite you all to death."
The Three-Headed Hounds barked back at the Black Three-Headed Hound:
"Charge—!"
"Hee hee! We absolutely cannot let that big black brute hog the front."
"Haha! We want to level up too, we want to evolve into Black Three-Headed Hounds too."
The Three-Headed Hounds rushed forward wave after wave to block the Black Three-Headed Hound, launching frantic attacks on Wang Xiaowei.
Wang Xiaowei was now a Main Tank with an epic-tier talent, boasting astonishing health and stamina.
Naturally, he was more than willing to be attacked by the hounds.
As long as it wasn't those two big black beasts attacking him, he could hold out much longer.
"How is it? Are you okay? Do you need me to tag in for you?"
Chris, who had already become Wang Xiaowei's spirit pet, asked with concern.
"I'm fine! Tell me when your stamina is fully restored. Otherwise, just wait until I can't hold on anymore, and I'll let you know."
Wang Xiaowei was hit by a triple strike from a Black Three-Headed Hound that had shoved its way to the front, leaving him feeling dizzy for a moment before he recovered and replied to Chris.
"Alright!" Chris swallowed another stamina-recovery pill and resumed her cross-legged sitting posture.
The battle continued for several hours.
Chris took over as Main Tank once again.
After taking a stamina-recovery pill, Wang Xiaowei sat cross-legged in the rear.
Suddenly, he received a telepathic transmission from Sister Lina:
"Little Brother Wei! Are you okay? Instructor Mark has tracked you down, and they'll be heading to the Dream Demon lair to rescue you shortly."
Wang Xiaowei replied:
"I'm fine. Have Dima and the others come along too; there are still plenty of Dream Demons here.
We'll kill as many as we can—it's all experience points."
There was no helping it; the Dream Demons were far too cunning.
After they killed more than fifty Dream Demons, the rest fled far away, refusing to give the Rose Elite Team any chance to slaughter them.
Instead, it was those thick-skinned, highly resistant Three-Headed Hounds that came on wave after wave without any fear of death.
"Everyone, hurry up with your damage output! That Black Three-Headed Hound is about to go down."
Prompted by Chris, the team members looked on in surprise as one of the Black Three-Headed Hounds wobbled unsteadily as it walked, looking as though it could collapse at any second.
Thus, the damage dealers unleashed even more ferocious attacks, eager to exhaust their remaining magic and stamina.
With a loud 'Boom!', the Black Three-Headed Hound finally collapsed to the ground.
'Received Experience +5000. Congratulations on reaching Level 6. You are 3,070 experience points away from the next level.'
"Wow! We finally killed it."
"Not bad, not bad! It actually gave 5,000 experience points."
"As expected of a once-evolved Three-Headed Hound."
"It got me up two levels."
"——"
The women were extremely excited.
Wang Xiaowei whispered a reminder: "Quickly replenish your magic and stamina; the teachers are coming.
Once the teachers arrive, we'll launch our counterattack. Everyone remember, target the Dream Demons exclusively later on."
Fortunately, the cowardly Dream Demons had hidden themselves far away; if they had heard Wang Xiaowei's conversation, every last one of them would have fled without a trace.
The women nodded.
Wang Xiaowei's meaning was crystal clear: experience points came first.
Besides, they held a deep, burning grudge against the Dream Demons.
The Rose Elite Team began gathering their strength, waiting for the counterattack to begin—
"Students! Your old master has arrived late."
Instructor Mark led a team and was the first to appear.
He immediately cast a skill, using a massive handprint to fiercely grab a Three-Headed Hound and spin it through the air. Then, a spear pierced straight through the hound's belly, finishing it off in a mere three seconds.
Next, a female instructor riding a griffin charged forward wielding a three-meter lance. Not only did she force many of the Three-Headed Hounds to one side, but she also drove the remaining Black Three-Headed Hound into a corner, instantly relieving a huge amount of pressure on the Rose Elite Team.
A stout male instructor leaped onto the back of a Black Three-Headed Hound, relentlessly pounding its three heads and sending it howling in pain.
Instructor Ada brandished her long whip, sending a Three-Headed Hound flying with every strike.
Countless spears specifically targeted the bellies of the Three-Headed Hounds—
Terrified by the sight, the Dream Demons scrambled to flee toward the exit of the lair.
"Counterattack!" The Rose Elite Team unleashed their full firepower.
Curses, Arcane Missiles, cannonballs, poisoned darts, and icicles rained down simultaneously on the Dream Demons, slaughtering dozens in a matter of moments.
As the fleeing demons reached the exit, an ambush party appeared.
A rain of fire, volleys of arrows, and kinetic qi blasts assaulted the fleeing Dream Demons in unison, claiming another dozen lives.
Meanwhile, the Rose Elite Team rushed over, unloading another round of attacks to slaughter dozens more.
Driven to desperation with bloodshot eyes, the Dream Demons launched a frantic assault on the Violet Team.
After sacrificing another dozen or so lives, the surviving Dream Demons scattered and fled in all directions through the forest.
After chasing them down to pick off a large number of kills, the Rose Elite Team and the Violet Team had no choice but to head back with a sense of lingering dissatisfaction.
After all, do not pursue a desperate foe too far.
The forest was always the territory of monsters, and if they happened to run into some major boss, they would only be left in tears—
Wang Xiaowei checked his status panel:
'Human.
Talent: Gray.
Level: 7 (3030/).
Health: 700/700
Strength: 77
Agility: 77
Stamina: 600/700
Profession: Spirit Master
Skills: Spirit Contract (Max), Soul Sharing (Max), Staff of Evolution (Max).
Available Stat Points: 70.'
Tsk tsk!
A spot in the top twenty was in the bag.
When everyone returned to the Dream Demon lair, Instructor Mark's group had already finished the battle.
All the Three-Headed Hounds lay dead with their paws in the air, their massive carcasses lined up one after another.
A spear was stabbed straight into the belly of every single Three-Headed Hound.
As for the once-evolved Black Three-Headed Hound, its belly was bristling with spears.
The scene was utterly comical.
Instructor Mark fired a flare gun.
Meanwhile, Instructor Ada and several other female instructors were comforting a few female students who had been rescued after being captured by the Dream Demons.
"Did you all learn your lesson this time?"
"The teachers have instructed you repeatedly: do not enter secret realms, do not enter the forest, do not enter the grassland, and do not enter the wasteland.
Stay within the safe zones.
And yet you refused to listen.
Well, look at you now! More than ten students with good talents have perished.
How do you expect the teachers to explain this to their parents?"
Instructor Mark reproached the Rose Elite Team and the Violet Team with a stern expression. As for the female students who had been captured, they had already suffered enough, so Instructor Mark didn't have the heart to say anything more.
"We're sorry, Instructor Mark.
I know I was wrong." Chris stepped forward voluntarily and took responsibility.
"As long as you know you were wrong, that's enough." Instructor Mark's expression softened considerably.
"The only reason the teachers were able to arrive in time this time is because I detected two more occurrences of divine miracles descending.
I tracked the presence of the gods all the way here.
Could it be that you brat Wang Xiaowei acquired another spirit pet?"
Instructor Mark looked over at Wang Xiaowei.
"Yes, I did!" Wang Xiaowei replied, scratching his head.
Instructor Mark gave Wang Xiaowei a quirky look, then glanced at Dark Moon Lilith the succubus and Alas the lesser demon in the Violet Team.
Then he lowered his voice and said to him:
"Young man, take it easy.
The lesser demon is fine!
But succubi specifically drain a man's experience.
Once you're saddled with a succubus, all your hard work leveling up will be for nothing.
Back in the day, when I was still a handsome middle-aged man, I also went to the slave market to buy a succubus.
Because my experience leaked away so severely, I ended up looking like this shriveled old geezer today.
Let my example be a warning!
Succubi are great, but don't get too greedy."
With the tone of someone who had been through it all, Instructor Mark offered this earnest and exasperated warning to Wang Xiaowei.
