Legends concerning the birth of the world have long circulated among the common people. The most prevalent account is that Pangu split the heaven and earth, and Chaos separated into two, thus bringing the world into existence.
What we are about to speak of, however, is what happened after the world's birth. At that time, the world had just divided into two parts, yet it was nothing like the form we see today. Instead, it consisted of two realms in the heavens and below, connected to one another yet completely separated—much like two worlds reflected in a mirror.
Chaos served as the mirror's surface, keeping the two worlds apart. In those days, there were only Wild Beasts. Unlike the creatures of the present whose power is rooted in spiritual energy, the source of a Wild Beast's power came from Chaos. Chaos was the primal force, and Wild Beasts that possessed it were naturally beings that modern living creatures could never hope to match.
