A sect is, in a way, much like a person.
After all, it is a human organization, and being dominated by humans, it inevitably takes on human consciousness. For example, a person desires eternal life, to live forever and maintain self-awareness; if that proves impossible, they wish to pass on their bloodline and continue their descendants.
A sect is no different. If those in power cannot attain longevity, they still wish for the sect to endure through the generations, allowing successors to carry on their will and keep it alive.
