The people in the hall turned deathly pale.
"Assassins!" Eunuch Li shouted. "Protect the Emperor!"
Arrows whistled through the windows, piercing the Imperial Study. In moments, the windows and doors were riddled with holes like a sieve. Though the imperial guards were highly skilled, they were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of attacks; as arrows rained down, the open layout of the hall offered little cover. Unable to maneuver, the guards were easily wounded, and before long, the secret guards were falling in droves.
