As with the usurping of the Wuchang God’s orthodoxy, a flood of images surged forth. These visions were all experiences from the life of Duke Yang Wenzhong. If an ordinary Confucian scholar were to inherit these memories, they would become yet another textbook of significant practical value.
For Zhou Tieyi, however, they offered something else: a glimpse into the appearance of that bygone era and an understanding of the considerations behind the decisions this man made amidst the tides of history. It was much like reading the biography of a historical figure, and it held its own unique rewards.
