The numerous middle and lower-ranking disciples of Taiyi Temple felt their emotions in turmoil, struggling to maintain their composure. For a long time, the calamity of the Divine Path had been a great taboo for the human race, an ironclad law established by the Confucianist Sages over two thousand years ago. In the interim, there had been those within the Taoist schools who sought to unite Taoism and the Divine Path—most famously the Tianyi Dao. Now, four hundred years later, another figure had appeared within the Taoist tradition who sought to integrate Taoism and the Divine Path. How could this not stir the hearts of the people? The disciples of Taiyi Temple felt as though they had boarded a vessel of monumental proportions, though one sailing through a pitch-black ocean with no visible path ahead. They could not tell if the ultimate result would be the destruction of the ship and all souls on board, or reaching the other shore.
