Xu Qinghuan’s gaze swept over the man: his firm, chiseled profile, his prominent Adam’s apple, and those flowing sleeves of his, which seemed as though they might catch the wind and carry him away at any moment. Xu Qinghuan felt a twinge of embarrassment and sheepishly rubbed her nose. Was it she who had torn his sleeve? She remembered that while on the bus, she hadn’t just torn his sleeve—she had also felt his abdominal muscles. Those well-defined, rock-hard muscles, warm to the touch, felt as if they were still imprinted on her palm. Suddenly, her palm began to burn as if it were on fire. Her reaction time was certainly a bit slow. But what was bound to happen had arrived nonetheless. Her original intention had been to find an opportunity to light a cigarette for this big shot; she truly hadn’t meant to take advantage of him, much less hurt him. It seemed she lacked the talent to be a sidekick to such an intimidating figure. Was it too late to mend her image in his eyes and ensure he wouldn’t hold a grudge?
