"Dad, Dad, open the door! It's your son."
"I... I don't know you."
I don't know when it started, but Dad's memory has been getting worse and worse. The house is plastered with little sticky notes reminding him what to do: where the fridge is, where the bathroom is, to put on an extra jacket, to bring his keys when he goes out, and he often forgets meals he has just finished.
Sometimes he walks all the way to the front door and doesn't even remember this is his home. He can't manage the most basic daily tasks like getting dressed or sleeping. What is most worrying and heartbreaking, though, is that he still remembers what his own son looks like.
Yet even if he forgets everything else, the one thing he never forgets is how to love you.
The son takes his dad out to eat at a restaurant. At the dinner table, the dad actually picks up the remaining two dumplings with his hands and puts them into his pocket.
The dad's eccentric behavior immediately draws strange looks from everyone at the table, but what the dad says next directly brings people to tears.
"Dad, what are you doing?"
"These... these are saved for my son. My son loves eating these the most."
"That hits way too close to home. It makes my heart ache just watching it, and I want to cry but I'm afraid of disturbing anyone."
"What kind of illness does this old man on the Celestial Screen have, anyway? It makes his memory worse and worse until he doesn't even know how to dress himself or sleep."…
