Chapter 9

Yun Xinru truly embodied the term "white lotus" to perfection. Yun Yao almost wanted to award her a prize for it. However, such petty schemes were not enough to trouble her. After all, she was an Old Ancestor who had lived for tens of thousands of years; there was no type of person she hadn't encountered before.
"Yun Xinru, are you jealous of me?" Yun Yao toyed with her fingernails, her demeanor icy and aloof. "Jealous that I entered Jingnan University—a place you had to struggle so hard to reach—without the slightest bit of effort?"
Hearing this, Yun Xinru’s face went pale for a fleeting moment. It was true; she was jealous of Yun Yao! Always! Why was it that Yun Yao was born with a silver spoon in her mouth as the eldest daughter of the Yun Family? Why was she so beautiful? Why were her grades so good? And why, even after she had turned Yun Yao into a vegetable, was Yun Yao still able to make such a comeback?
Yun Xinru did not voice her true thoughts. Instead, she clutched her chest, appearing to be in great pain. "Sister, things obtained through shortcuts are the least capable of standing the test of time. In the end, it will only bring disgrace to our Yun Family!"
Yun Yao nodded. "Hmm, you have a point. But so what? I am standing right in front of you now! What can you possibly do about it?"
Yun Yao stepped forward, reached out to pat the other side of Yun Xinru’s face, and leaned in slightly. "Yun Xinru, the show has only just begun. Just wait and see how I destroy you, step by step."
Yun Yao’s voice was low, yet it made Yun Xinru feel as though she had fallen into an ice cellar. As she watched Yun Yao walk away, Yun Xinru’s nails dug into her palms. *Yun Yao! You bitch! I will kill you!*
Yun Yao didn't care what Yun Xinru was thinking; a minion of that level wasn't worth a second thought. Once she left the campus, she headed straight back to the Yun Family residence.
Yun Zhengfeng looked at the suddenly appearing Yun Yao, his expression somewhat unnatural. "Young lady, you’ve returned."
Yun Yao glanced at him. "Do I not have a name?" Being called "young lady" all the time was truly awkward.
Every time Yun Zhengfeng was in the same room as Yun Yao, he felt inexplicably nervous, and today was no exception. "My oversight, Yun... Yun Yao."
Yun Yao sat on the sofa with a languid air. "I will be staying at the Yun Family for a few days." This was not a request.
Yun Zhengfeng assumed a respectful posture. Looking at her face, he spoke slowly, "This has always been your home; you may stay as long as you like."
Yun Yao nodded. "While I am here, I do not want to see anyone else."
Yun Zhengfeng knew she was referring to the family of his second son. "Very well. I will have them move out immediately."
Yun Yao was satisfied with Yun Zhengfeng’s attitude. To show her sincerity, just before heading upstairs, she tossed a card to him. "There are two billion in here. That should be enough to cover the deficit left by Yun Jianghai’s embezzlement of public funds."
Yun Zhengfeng stared at the bank card in his hand, his expression frozen. Before he could say anything, Yun Yao had already disappeared at the top of the stairs.
Dazed, Yun Zhengfeng slumped onto the sofa, unable to hold back his tears. He had avoided confirming Yun Yao’s true capabilities because he had been clinging to a sliver of fantasy. He had hoped his little Yao was still there, and that she had merely changed her temperament due to being disconnected from the world for too long. But the two billion in his hand ruthlessly dragged him back to reality. Even the entire Yun Family could not scrape together that much in liquid assets right now.
"Sigh, little Yao," the old man on the sofa sighed, looking several years older in an instant. "You have really left your grandfather behind."
...
Yun Yao lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Her phone was on speakerphone beside her, transmitting Luohong’s incessant chatter.
"Old Ancestor, did you really just give those two manuscripts to the Jingnan University archaeology department?"
Yun Yao replied with a hum.
"Old Ancestor, I don't think you realize the influence of the Chancellor of Xinan in the archaeological world!"
Yun Yao rolled over. "Luohong, when do you think Su Yuchen will stop being angry?"
Luohong: "..." It was like playing the lute to a cow! "Old Ancestor, matters of the heart cannot be forced, yet you insist on playing the tyrant!"
Yun Yao felt a wave of irritation and sat up. "I was just afraid he would run away!"
Luohong sighed. "With your methods, wouldn't it be easy to get any man you wanted?"
"You don't understand, he is different from those others!"
On the other end of the line, Luohong couldn't help but roll his eyes. "Old Ancestor, haven't you heard the saying? All men in this world are cut from the same cloth!"
Yun Yao leaned back, sprawling on the bed. "I don't believe it. Is there really a man in this world that I, Yun Yao, cannot handle? Luohong, I intend to send Su Yuchen a gift—consider it my dowry to him!"
Upon hearing this, Luohong had an ominous premonition. "Old Ancestor, you..."
"Liquidate all of my assets accumulated over these years! I want to take one percent and give it to Su Yuchen!"
Luohong’s voice trembled. "Old Ancestor, one percent of your wealth is enough to make Su Yuchen the richest man in Hua Guo! Isn't that a bit too exaggerated?"
Yun Yao disagreed. "Luohong, you’ve served me for so long; have you ever seen me this serious?"
Luohong fell silent. For ten thousand years, whether they were supreme leaders or monarchs of nations, they had all flocked to the Old Ancestor. Yet, those who could make the Old Ancestor take them seriously were few and far between, let alone those who could win her heart.
"Old Ancestor, are you sure you aren't just coveting his looks?"
Yun Yao’s expression flickered. "So what if I am?"
Luohong said nothing for a long time before finally responding, "Old Ancestor, your decisions have never been wrong, and I hope this time is no different. But remember, beauty is a blade—please be cautious."
Being lectured made Yun Yao feel irritable. "Luohong, have you forgotten your place?"
Even through the phone, Yun Yao could hear the thud of someone kneeling. "Old Ancestor, it was my presumption. I will carry out your orders immediately."
Luohong dared not say another word. As he had said, in all these ten thousand years, not one of the Old Ancestor’s major decisions had ever been wrong. She was omnipotent, but her temper was far from good. When the Old Ancestor was enraged, corpses would pile up by the millions and blood would flow like rivers.
"Goodnight, Old Ancestor."
After hanging up, Yun Yao remained awake for a long time. She had been awake in this life for several days now, yet she hadn't even managed to handle one Su Yuchen. A deep sense of frustration washed over her. But when she thought of Su Yuchen’s devilishly handsome face, her heart began to race with irritation once more. Why did she miss him so much?
Yun Yao had never been one to wrong herself. Since she wanted to see him, she would go see him.
