Qin Shuli swapped the medicines and surgical instruments in the Huamao Company warehouse with crates salvaged from other storage areas, then doused everything with fuel. He knew he had to leave something behind; if the warehouses appeared empty, it would surely raise suspicion. After slipping out of Huamao, he walked straight to the Changhe Industrial warehouse. More than half of the entire warehouse district was occupied by Changhe’s stock, including medicines, quilted coats, surgical instruments, and individual combat gear—virtually everything except weapons. It had been a long time since Qin Shuli had carried out such a satisfying operation; it felt just like the days when he fought the Japanese invaders. He loaded up all the supplies and sprayed fuel over the remaining packaging and throughout the facility. By the time he stepped outside, it was two in the morning. Aside from the regular guards, the warehouse district was deserted. Qin Shuli ignited the fire from the back of the complex, ensuring the blaze would spread forward, giving the guards time to escape.
