The foundation of the sacrificial hall was built thick and sturdy, and while sections of the brick and stone walls had not completely collapsed, they remained scorched and in total ruin. Mu Yan and Miao San stepped onto what could be considered the "deck" of the hall, where a long corridor led toward the inner sanctum. The stench of blood they had smelled at the entrance still hung thick in the air. Yet, it was vastly different from the scent lingering outside Old Man Sun’s house. This blood did not carry that heavy, stubborn rot; it felt fluid, as if it were still being shed, drop by drop, congealing in real time. An ominous dread rose in Mu Yan’s heart. She glanced at Miao San beside her; he had his fists tightly clenched, dragging his feet as he moved toward the inner sanctum.
