Chapter 26: Her First Half of Life
Ling Yeli left the hospital in a daze. Not knowing where to go, he wandered aimlessly along the road for a long time. It wasn't until the early autumn night breeze chilled him to the bone that he slowly snapped back to reality. He was standing on an old, pedestrian street.
It was ten o'clock at night, yet a few shops on the old street kept their lights on, as if extending their business hours could bring in a few more customers. Near a fork in the road, an old person sat by a small stall. Not far away, someone dressed in a mascot costume, their face and age obscured, was handing out flyers. Most passersby didn't even reach out; a few who did would take one, glance at it, and toss it away. The person could only bend down, pick them up, dust them off, and wait for the next passerby.
