Time still rolled forward leisurely and unhurriedly. Thin, lazy clouds drifted across the mid-mountain waist, and occasionally a few cranes glided over the sea of clouds, their pure white wings stirring up ripple-like patterns. A narrow waterfall poured down from the mountain peak, leaping in long or short bursts across the protruding rock faces, and the churning mist transformed into dreamlike, magnificent colors under the sunlight. The ethereal sound of a qin echoed faintly from afar in response to the running water. The little deer foraging freely in the mountains had long since grown accustomed to the celestial melodies, and it was the sudden, abrupt cessation that caused it to raise its head in bewilderment.
