Chapter 5

"Huh?"
"Get back in the car first. I'll take care of these guys and we'll go home, be a good girl."
Jiang Wan'er nodded. Just as she stepped into the car, a jarring voice rang out.
"Oho~~ So the little lovebirds sneaked out here in the middle of the night to whisper sweet nothings, huh?"
More than a dozen people dressed in night-cloaking garments emerged from the bushes, holding steel sabers and pipes, looking extremely arrogant as they stared at Liu Bufan.
Hearing this, Liu Bufan shook his head.
"Talk about a cliché plot."
The dozen or so men in black burst into laughter:
"Are you brain-damaged from getting hit? Who do you think you are, playing the movie star here?"
Only the leader of the men in black felt something was a bit off, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Impatiently, he snapped:
"The hell are you all laughing for? Hurry up and finish him off so we can get the rest of our commission and go back to buy tickets for the football match. Wouldn't that be sweet? Tonight's the World Cup final—Germany is playing Brasilia, Brasilia! It's a dead cert..."
Before the word "win" could even leave his mouth, he saw a figure flash right beside him.
Then he watched as Liu Bufan threw a punch at the man in black who had spoken first—a punch that looked deceptively slow, yet was actually fast to the absolute extreme.
The entire punching motion was so slow that every detail could be seen clearly, yet it was so fast that one could see the supersonic sonic boom and the pitch-black cracks torn open in space.
The end result was that the man in black hit by the fist was turned into fine dust without feeling a shred of pain, and was then swallowed up by the ruptured void fissure.
Everyone else was knocked flat onto the ground by the shockwave generated as the fist broke the sound barrier.
A dead silence fell over the scene. In the car, Jiang Wan'er drew in a sharp breath at the sight.
"Sigh, didn't control my strength properly. He died too peacefully."
Liu Bufan muttered to himself.
Hearing this, the rest of the men in black were practically on the verge of tears.
Peaceful, my foot!
When you're beaten to ashes, there's at least still some ash left. This guy didn't even leave a speck behind, and you call that peaceful?
The leader of the men in black finally realized what was wrong.
Didn't intelligence say the target was a legless mute?
Yet this guy's speech was even more crisp and standard than his own—his Mandarin proficiency must have been at least Grade A.
And what about that speed? If a cripple could move like that, the Paralympic 100-meter sprinters could beat Usain Bolt black and blue!
Not only that, what the hell was that pitch-black fissure that appeared out of nowhere and then vanished just now?
Putting aside all the questions crowding his mind, the leader now knew only one thing: he had completely messed up this time, and this guy was someone he couldn't afford to provoke.
Yet, a sudden thought crossed his mind, and he immediately broke into a grin:
"Ha, I know what you want to ask next. But don't even think about forcing anything out of my mouth!"
Liu Bufan said lazily:
"Well, look at that, a tough nut to crack. In that case..."
"No need to ask, I'll confess everything myself!"
The leader dropped to his knees with a thud, puffing out his chest and trying to claim credit as he blurted:
"It was Young Master Li from Julong Group who made me do it! He's got his eyes on your wife."
The corners of Liu Bufan's mouth twitched uncontrollably.
You're really throwing me for a loop here.
This is way too shameless—is there no professional ethics left at all?!
"You did a good job..."
The leader let out a long sigh of relief in his heart. Looks like he wasn't going to die today.
But immediately afterward, he felt his body flying backward.
"However, you disgust me."
Liu Bufan said with an expression of utter disgust.
The leader crashed heavily onto the ground, half his life instantly snuffed out.
As luck would have it, his phone slipped out of his pocket, and the screen was broadcasting:
"7:1! Germany has actually defeated the host nation Brasilia 7:1! This is a miracle! Tonight is a night where miracles are made!"
The leader of the men in black stared dead at the screen. Thinking of how he had gone all-in with all his assets and taken out a ten-million loan to bet on Brasilia, a mouthful of old blood gushed from his throat, and he breathed his last on the spot...
Seeing this, Liu Bufan felt the atmosphere at the scene was truly bizarre beyond words. He looked at the group of people lying on the ground and, after struggling for a long time, managed to spit out: "See that? Gambling ruins lives."
The crowd of men in black simply stood there in a daze, having no idea what had just transpired in the blink of an eye. Before they could even react, they watched one after another as their teammates clutched their necks and collapsed. The very last thing to flash before their eyes at the end of their lives was a single, intensely green leaf.
Seeing that the men in black had all been subdued, Jiang Wan'er hurriedly got out of the car and began checking Liu Bufan up and down from head to toe.
"Wife, what are you looking for?"
Ignoring Liu Bufan's question, Jiang Wan'er felt around as she asked:
"Darling, are you hurt?"
Even though Liu Bufan had already told her about his abilities and even taken her for a flight, this kind of concern didn't contain a shred of rationality—it was purely instinctive.
Watching Jiang Wan'er fluster about, Liu Bufan felt his heart swell with warmth.
After inspecting him thoroughly and finding not a single scratch on his body, Jiang Wan'er finally patted her chest and let out a long breath of relief.
"There were over a dozen of them just now, you scared me to death."
"Just a dozen ants, nothing to worry about, wife."
Liu Bufan soothed her.
"Darling, was that the 'flying leaf kills people' trick just now? In the novels my younger brother reads, only Grandmasters can do that. Have you become a Grandmaster now?"
Jiang Wan'er didn't feel a shred of fear from being at a murder scene; instead, she looked somewhat excited, gesturing with her hands.
Liu Bufan tapped her little head:
"Stop listening to your brother's nonsense from those novels. Just now I simply used pure physical force to throw the leaf—breaking all techniques with sheer power."
Jiang Wan'er was like a well of endless questions:
"Then what was that crack just now, darling? How did it suddenly disappear?"
"That? The Saint Body just finished fusing, and I didn't control my strength well. I didn't expect that putting a tiny bit of force behind it would punch right through the spatial barrier. Fortunately, spatial barriers have ultra-strong healing capabilities, which is why it recovered immediately."
Liu Bufan answered.
Jiang Wan'er looked thoughtful:
"Is the void all pitch-black like that?"
"Yeah. There's no light at all in the void, so it's completely dark. Plus, there are spatial storms in there powerful enough to tear virtually anything apart. If you aren't careful for even a second, you'll be smashed to pieces. On top of that, the timeline inside is chaotic, so you could easily get lost in the river of time."
With tears welling in her eyes, Jiang Wan'er said:
"Darling, is that the kind of place you traveled back from? Did you even know you could die?"
Liu Bufan felt his chest being lightly pounded by a pair of small fists over and over. Looking at his beloved with doting affection, a profound sense of happiness welled up inside him.
"Wife, once I deal with these eyesores, we're going home."
Jiang Wan'er obediently nodded.
Liu Bufan simply gathered the bodies into a pile and casually threw a punch.
"If I had my magic power right now, I'd just toss a fire spell and burn them to ashes. Why do I have to go through all this trouble?"
Liu Bufan complained.
Watching Liu Bufan handle things so briskly, Jiang Wan'er asked timidly:
"Darling, you aren't a demonic cultivator, are you? You look way too practiced at this."
Liu Bufan curled his lips:
"I'll have you know I've stolen dogs and worked as a mountain bandit!"
