Ling Zhou’s pupils contracted sharply, a terrified whimper escaping his throat. Before he could even attempt to defend himself, several thugs, fierce as wolves and tigers, surged forward. With a crisp, sickening "crack," his jaw was violently dislocated. He slumped limp in his chair, saliva dribbling uncontrollably from the corner of his mouth. He struggled, desperate to speak, but could only manage a garbled, guttural sound. Huo Yanxing turned to the shopkeeper and said in a low voice, "My third sister is still young. Please take her to the next room for some pastries." The shopkeeper nodded repeatedly and hurriedly led Huo Yunyao, who was full of curiosity and lingering fear, out of the room. Once the door clicked shut, Huo Yanxing slowly drew the long blade from his waist.
