For human civilization, this journey progressed from the ignorance and barbarism of early days—consuming raw meat and blood, offering human sacrifices—to the philosophical inquiry and naive curiosity of youth as it sought to understand the world above and below; then to the passionate impulse of young adulthood, expanding territories and carving out vast empires; and finally to reaching maturity, looking up at the starry skies, and advancing with resolute, cautious humility.
