On the imperial road leading from the Qianghu lands to Youzhou City, a cavalry unit of some eight hundred men was galloping at high speed. The sound of their horses’ hooves was rhythmic and uniform, kicking up clouds of dust. At the head of the troop rode Jia Lingyun and Adoduox. Trailing behind the Camp Breaker were ten pack horses struggling to keep pace, burdened with the heavy luggage of Feiyan. As for Feiyan herself, she had been freed from such toils; she lay across the back of her horse with her legs crossed, humming a nameless tune and reading a book with intense focus. It was clear that she loved to read; even as the warhorse galloped, it did not bother her in the slightest. Though she seemed to be lying precariously on the horse’s back with no support, not even the violent jolting of their journey could shake her loose. After several days of hard travel, the party reached the border of Youzhou. Back on familiar soil, Jia Lingyun felt his spirits soar. He gave a slight wave, and Adoduox immediately relayed the order to the entire army.
