To this day, Jia Lingyun remained thirty percent convinced that Cáo Rúmèng was Cáo Rúmèng and Dugu Yao was Dugu Yao. This sliver of doubt stemmed from how incredibly innocent Dugu Yao appeared. She carried herself with such a naive, harmless air that one felt as though a harsh word might move her to tears. Faced with Jia Lingyun’s scrutiny, she did nothing but drink tea continuously, hoping to soothe her underlying nerves. While this clumsy display was riddled with holes, it only deepened Jia Lingyun’s suspicions; after all, the real Cáo Rúmèng would never leave such flaws exposed.
Dugu Yao let out a dry laugh. "The Prince of Han is joking. How could I possibly be Cáo Rúmèng?"
Jia Lingyun stared into her eyes. "Cáo Rúmèng is outgoing and unrestrained, while you are reserved and shy. Your personalities are worlds apart. By all rights, I shouldn't suspect you. But there are too many coincidences, and the reasons you provide are insufficient to convince me. Tell me, how am I supposed to believe you aren't her?"
