Chapter 10

After chatting with Lin Fei for a while, Dunzi left for work. Before he departed, Lin Fei asked him for a favor. Dunzi looked confused upon hearing Lin Fei’s request, but having trusted Lin Fei implicitly since childhood, he never questioned Brother Fei’s instructions and promised to do his absolute best.
Lin Fei had his sister-in-law cook a few of his parents’ and brother’s favorite dishes, then went to the village shop to buy a bottle of fine liquor and two packs of good cigarettes to take to their graves. Ever since the car accident, Lin Fei had been bedridden, unable to even pay his respects to his parents and brother. The family was buried on the hillside behind the village—the ancestral burial ground for the Lin clan of Longquan Village, where all deceased Lin family members were interred.
"Father, Mother, Brother, I’ve come to see you..."
Looking at the names on the tombstones, Lin Fei wept uncontrollably. "I’ve suddenly recovered. Your spirits must have been watching over me, hoping I would avenge you." He wiped his eyes, his voice hardening. "Father, Mother, Brother, rest easy. I will make the murderer pay in blood so you can rest in peace in the afterlife..."
The deeper his sorrow, the more intense his hatred for the killer, Liu Jinshan, became.
*Hm? What was that?*
Just as Lin Fei stood up after kowtowing, he caught sight of wisps of emerald-green spiritual energy emanating from a nearby thicket of thorns. His eyes allowed him to see all the energies in the world, including various types of spiritual energy. Lin Fei reasoned that such dense spiritual energy could only come from a precious medicinal herb. He hurried over to the thicket to examine it closely.
*Polygonum multiflorum!*
There was a Polygonum multiflorum plant growing right inside the thorns! Lin Fei was astonished. Furthermore, judging by the spiritual energy it exuded and the appearance of its vines, it was definitely of considerable age. Wild Polygonum multiflorum was extremely valuable, especially if it had grown into a human-like shape. As a student of traditional Chinese medicine, Lin Fei recognized the rare herb immediately. It was often overlooked because it grew in dense thickets, and most people wouldn't know how to identify it anyway. Lin Fei mused that it was no surprise no one had discovered it, tucked away near the graveyard behind such a dense thicket; if not for his ability to see the flow of energy, he would never have found it either.
Without hesitation, he hurried home to fetch a hoe and a basket. The older the plant, the deeper the roots, and Lin Fei had to dig over two meters deep before the treasure revealed its true form.
*Holy cow! A human-shaped Polygonum multiflorum! I’m rich, I’m rich!*
Lin Fei watched as he unearthed the pair of roots. They were plump, large, and remarkably lifelike, with clear physical features and a rich color—undoubtedly a top-tier specimen over a hundred years old! Lin Fei was ecstatic, though he quickly poked his head out of the pit to scan his surroundings. Fortunately, it was a sweltering afternoon, and he was near the graveyard; no one was around.
Lin Fei knew that when digging up wild Polygonum multiflorum, one had to keep the vines and root hairs intact. The vine couldn't be shorter than a meter, and it was best not to break a single hair; otherwise, it would not only ruin its value but also cause the spiritual energy to dissipate. The vine also served as proof of its wild origins, a necessary measure given the market was flooded with fakes.
After much effort and drenched in sweat, Lin Fei finally unearthed the pair, which weighed at least fifteen or sixteen pounds. He was clever enough to use his phone to record the entire excavation process. With that video, who could dare claim his herb wasn't pure wild stock? While there was no fixed market price for a century-old wild specimen, a true collector would pay any price. Based on his knowledge of the trade, he estimated that if he found a serious buyer, he could start the asking price at a minimum of one hundred thousand yuan.
This was a windfall! And it might just be the beginning. Discovering this plant had given Lin Fei an epiphany: with his ability to see the spiritual energy of plants, foraging for rare medicinal herbs in the mountains would be effortless. Longquan Mountain was already rich in medicinal resources; this was a heaven-sent way to make a fortune.
Lin Fei placed the herb in his basket and covered it with his shirt to protect it from the sun and keep it hidden. When he arrived at his doorstep with the basket on his back, he saw a flashy red Maserati parked in front of his gate, with the village elders and women gathered around, staring in curiosity. It was rare for such a luxury car to visit a poor, remote place like Longquan Village, let alone park in front of the most dilapidated farmhouse in the area.
Lin Fei wasn't surprised; a faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. He didn't need to ask—the beautiful woman who had accused him of staging a car accident was here for treatment. In fact, Lin Fei had already divined her visit; her arrival, timing, and method were exactly as his hexagram had predicted.
"Little Fei, who is this girl in the fancy car?" "Is she your girlfriend?" "Forget it, him? He’s penniless. Would a rich girl ever look at him?" "Young Fei is handsome, talented in medicine, and now that he's recovered, his future is limitless!" "I think she's here for medical help. I heard he cured Old Gen's father's heart disease this morning!"
Seeing Lin Fei return, the women and elders gathered at the gate bombarded him with questions. Lin Fei just smiled, said nothing, and pushed open the gate to enter the courtyard.
He saw the beauty sitting there—none other than the woman from the BMW earlier that day. When he had first seen her, he had felt she was stunning. Up close, her figure was impeccable: long legs, a slender waist, and a perfect silhouette. Standing about 1.68 meters tall, she was neither too thin nor too heavy. Dressed in a Gucci T-shirt, Chanel capris, MB heels, and carrying a Chanel bag, her outfit was worth more than a farmer’s income for several years. She was truly sexy, dazzling, and exuded an aura of wealth. His sister-in-law, Mo Xinlan, looked pale in comparison standing next to her, completely overshadowed by her attire.
"Little Fei, this young lady said she came to look for you. Is she a friend of yours?" Mo Xinlan asked, looking surprised as she gestured toward Luo Xiaowei. In her mind, Lin Fei didn't have friends among the wealthy elite.
"You’re Lin Fei? The miracle doctor?" Luo Xiaowei was surprised to find that the person Mo Xinlan identified as the one she was looking for was the same small-time farmer who had crashed into her car that morning.
"That's right, I am the miracle doctor of Longquan Village, Lin Fei," Lin Fei replied, nodding without a hint of modesty.
Luo Xiaowei frowned slightly. *This guy is hardly humble,* she thought. *Who calls themselves a miracle doctor? And such a young one at that?* She couldn't help but suspect he was just a con artist out for her money.
"Little Fei, since when did you become a miracle doctor?" Mo Xinlan was startled and quickly pulled Lin Fei aside to whisper the question.
Even though Mo Xinlan’s voice was soft, Luo Xiaowei heard it, making her even more guarded. She thought, *If even his own family doesn't know he's a doctor, yet he has the gall to call himself one, this is complete nonsense!*
