Chapter 7

Lin Fei suddenly returning to the hospital in perfect health left his colleagues in total shock. For someone who had been paraplegic and blind for two years to make a full recovery was nothing short of a medical miracle. The hospital staff had no idea that Lin Fei had been faking his amnesia.
Two years ago, he had been just one month shy of completing his internship, which would have allowed him to sit for his medical licensing exam. After completing the reinstatement paperwork, he headed to the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine to report for duty. When he pushed open the door to the office and saw that the department head was none other than Liu Qingbo, he couldn't help but freeze.
Liu Qingbo had been an intern alongside Lin Fei. In two years, not only had he secured a permanent position, but he had also climbed the ranks to become the department head! It was a meteoric rise. Yet, Lin Fei wasn't particularly surprised; Liu Qingbo was the nephew of the local village tyrant, Liu Jinshan. Liu Jinshan didn't just rule Longquan Village with an iron fist—he was a powerful, wealthy mogul throughout the entire Longwang Town. With Liu Jinshan as his backer, it was only natural for Liu Qingbo to soar.
Liu Qingbo was narrow-minded, sinister, and vicious; he and Lin Fei had never seen eye to eye. Upon learning that Lin Fei had returned, a wave of malice surged in his heart.
"I never imagined that someone with one foot in the grave would be back on his feet and acting so spry! Truly bizarre!" Liu Qingbo said, eyeing Lin Fei with a sarcastic sneer. As he spoke, he pointedly adjusted his name tag, a reminder that he was the boss now and Lin Fei was nothing but a lowly intern. If Lin Fei thought he could still challenge him, he was sadly mistaken.
"Good morning, Director Liu. This is my reinstatement form. The dean has already signed it. Please sign it so I can officially report for duty." Lin Fei knew Liu Qingbo’s character all too well; ignoring the jab, he simply handed over the form.
Liu Qingbo was only too happy to sign. Without a moment’s hesitation, he scribbled his name across the paper. With that signature, Lin Fei became meat on his chopping block—he could crush or mince him however he liked.
"Thank you, Director Liu. However, I need to prepare a few things, so I will return to start work tomorrow," Lin Fei said, taking the form with a stoic expression.
"Fine. But the TCM department is currently overstaffed with interns, and all the clinical positions are filled. Where should I put you?" Liu Qingbo put on airs, sipping from a high-end tea cup as he glanced sideways at Lin Fei.
"Anywhere is fine. You decide, Director Liu," Lin Fei replied curtly. He only needed to finish this month of his internship to qualify for the licensing exam. The specific assignment didn't matter to him. He had no intention of staying at the town hospital once he was licensed—with his current medical skills, how could he possibly work for someone else? He planned to open his own clinic, and perhaps one day, a major hospital.
"You want me to decide? Very well." A sinister glint flashed in Liu Qingbo's eyes.
After finishing his business, Lin Fei returned to the village. As he reached the entrance, he saw a man pedaling a tricycle in a frantic hurry. Lying in the back was an elderly man, his face purplish, struggling for breath, his body trembling uncontrollably.
"Uncle Gen, is Grandpa Changshu sick?" Lin Fei asked loudly, sensing the danger of the old man’s condition.
"Are you... Lin Fei? What are you doing here?" The man on the tricycle looked up and, seeing it was the once-paralyzed and blind Lin Fei, his eyes widened in disbelief.
"Uncle Gen, I'm better now. Grandpa Changshu looks like he’s having a heart attack!"
"Better? Oh, right... My father complained of chest pain when he woke up this morning, and it just kept getting worse. I’m rushing him to the hospital now," Lin Yougen said, wiping sweat from his forehead.
"Uncle Gen, his condition is critical! I’m afraid he won’t make it to the hospital in time! Let’s go, take him to my place!" Lin Fei briefly checked the old man’s pulse and said firmly.
"Really? Oh... alright then." Lin Yougen knew Lin Fei was a doctor, and panicked by his tone, he didn't dare hesitate.
Once they arrived, Lin Fei immediately took out his silver needles. Within the inheritance of the Tongtian Divination Formula were many ancient needle techniques, including one called the "Heart-Returning Life-Saving Needle," specifically designed for sudden heart emergencies. He unbuttoned the old man's shirt and rapidly inserted needles into the Jiquan point under the left armpit, the Shaohai point inside the elbow, the Shenmen point at the wrist, and the Shaochong point on the pinky finger. These four were major points on the Heart Meridian; clearing them quickly would provide the heart with sufficient Qi and blood.
Lin Fei’s movements were decisive, precise, and highly skilled. The way he pierced, twisted, lifted, and paused was fluid and refined—even he found it incredible. He never could have managed such effortless precision before. This was the miracle of the medical knowledge within the Tongtian Divination Formula.
However, clearing the meridians wasn't enough; the coronary artery was still blocked, preventing the Qi and blood from reaching the heart. Lin Fei channeled a wisp of Heaven-Reaching Spiritual Qi from his dantian through the needles and directly into the old man’s artery. The spiritual energy dissolved the blood clot at an astonishing speed, repairing the damaged vessel and clearing the coronary artery in an instant.
"Huff! Huff! Huff!"
As the blockage cleared and blood rushed to his heart, the old man, who had been purple with suffocation, began to breathe in deep, ragged gasps. Soon, his color returned to normal, his breathing steadied, and his pain vanished. To everyone's surprise, he was even able to sit up and speak. Lin Fei checked his pulse again and found he had significantly improved. He was overjoyed—this was the first time he had utilized the medical arts from the inheritance, and he hadn't expected the results to be so miraculous!
"Oh my! Little Fei, you really are a miracle doctor! I don't know what we would have done if we hadn't run into you today... I don't know how to thank you..." Seeing his father saved, Lin Yougen gripped Lin Fei’s hand, tears streaming down his face.
Lin Fei wrote out a prescription and urged Lin Yougen to take the old man to the hospital for a check-up anyway. His sister-in-law and Bao'er were not at home, and he assumed they were out working in the fields.
"Oh! What am I to do! What am I to do!" Just as Lin Fei was about to head out to bring Bao'er back, he heard weeping coming from next door—Aunt Cuiyun.
"Auntie, what’s the matter?" Lin Fei walked to the gate and saw the woman sitting on a stool, wailing and wiping away tears in a panic.
"Little Fei? Your sister-in-law said you were better, and you really are! Blessings upon you! Oh, my cow is gone! I’ve been looking for it since this morning and can't find it anywhere! What am I going to do? If Gou Sheng’s father comes home and finds the cow missing, he’ll never hear the end of it from me!" Aunt Cuiyun lamented, slapping her thighs.
Lin Fei frowned slightly, then immediately channeled a wisp of spiritual energy. A red light flashed from the image of the Gen hexagram in his dantian as he cast a divination.
