When the Great Tribulation descended, even the Sages sought to protect themselves, and the only way to do so was to prevent any single Sage from becoming embroiled in the Tribulation. Once one Sage entered the Tribulation, all the others would inevitably be drawn in, unable to hide even if they wished to.
Although the Tribulation would not spell death for the Sages, it would drain their karmic luck. Sages merely shared the karmic luck of the Ancestor of Magic and Dao Ancestor Hongjun, and losing any more of it would deal a heavy blow to their future cultivation. The status of a Sage was a Dao Fruit rather than pure cultivation; the Peak Early Hunyuan Daluo Golden Immortal realm was not the ultimate limit, as even higher realms lay above it. Therefore, these Sages still needed to advance their cultivation, especially now that they had attained Sagehood and desired progress even more. None of them was willing to fall behind the others!
