Chapter 10

712 words4 minutes read

To think that yesterday's guy was actually a martial arts expert, yet Lěng Yè knocked him down with a single punch? This plot twist is even more convoluted than a soap opera!
And his older brother is actually coming to demand justice? This situation is even more clichéd than television!
Wang Yujie, a clever and quick-witted girl, immediately understood why Lěng Yè was so anxious. In last night's brawl, although Lěng Yè came out on top, he had practically exhausted all his strength. Now, an even more formidable avengers had appeared, plunging Lěng Yè into a tight spot.
"Sigh, when it all comes down to it, this is all because of trouble I caused. Haven't I just screwed Lěng Yè over completely!" Wang Yujie wore a look of deep regret, as if she had a neon sign reading "prime culprit" hovering above her head.
She put down Lěng Yè's phone, her mind racing as she tried to find a way to solve the problem. But the moment she thought of the opponent's formidable strength, she felt utterly helpless, and a wave of depression washed over her.
When Lěng Yè came out after taking a shower and saw the worried look on Wang Yujie's face, he asked, "Sister-in-law, what's wrong? You're frowning so deeply."
Wang Yujie forced a smile that looked worse than crying: "Oh, it's nothing. I still haven't washed the dishes in the kitchen, I'm going right now." With that, she hurried toward the kitchen.
She knew that Lěng Yè's mind must already be a tangled mess, and she didn't want to add to his worries, so she simply decided to pretend she knew nothing.
Lěng Yè didn't think much of it and returned to his own room.
After finishing the dishes, Wang Yujie paced back and forth in the living room like an ant on a hot pan.
"I wonder if Lěng Yè has thought of a way to solve this?"
"Not being able to beat them doesn't mean there's no way out. Worst-case scenario, we can just run away! Before that big boss arrives, we'll pack up and leave under cover of night, finding some remote place to hide out. Staying alive is what matters most!"
An idea flashed through her mind, and she felt this was the only way to help Lěng Yè. After thinking it over for a moment, she decided to go talk to Lěng Yè about it.
Meanwhile, Lěng Yè was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, ransacking all his inherited memories without finding any method to rapidly increase his strength.
"Should I go ask Gāo Yán for help? What if her heart softens? But it's much more likely she'll just throw me out directly, or get angry and call the police on me. Better forget it."
Just as he was agonizing over this, a knock came from outside the door.
"Knock, knock, knock."
Lěng Yè got up to open the door, wondering to himself: "Sister-in-law, why is she knocking at this hour?"
"Lěng Yè, I have an idea." Wang Yujie looked at Lěng Yè with a serious expression. "Let's run away. The farther, the better."
Lěng Yè froze; he hadn't expected Wang Yujie to make such a suggestion.
"But..." Lěng Yè hesitated, "Where can we even run to? What about Gāo Yán? Besides, isn't this just running away from the problem?"
Wang Yujie said anxiously, "Lěng Yè, we don't have any other choice now. That big boss is too terrifying; we stand no chance against him. As long as the green hills remain, there's no need to worry about firewood!"
"Gāo Yán hasn't completely exposed the relationship between you two yet. Furthermore, she's Long Aotian's daughter-in-law, Long Kun's fiancée, and a member of the Longcheng Gāo Family. Even if some gossip about you two spreads, no one will dare touch her, nor would they have the guts to."
Lěng Yè fell silent for a moment before finally nodding.
"All right, Sister-in-law, let's pack our things and leave right away."
The two of them quickly packed their luggage and used the cover of night to leave their residence.
However, little did they know that the gears of fate had already begun to turn, and an even greater crisis was waiting for them...
