Kǒng Yǎotiāo turned and walked back into her room, letting out a soft sigh. Inside, several stoves burned year-round, keeping the indoor temperature above fifty degrees Celsius, yet even so, she could not feel a shred of warmth. She walked over to the vanity, stripped off her outer garments, and revealed a breathtakingly beautiful body. Her skin was like snow and her curves were exquisite, but the bluish-purple veins across her chest over her heart throbbed and flickered in and out of view, like a silent, demonic claw slowly encroaching upon her heart. Every night at the hour of the rat, the agonizing pain when the frost poison flared up drove her nearly to the brink of collapse; last night, she had even prepared herself to welcome death, donning her favorite long dress and dismissing her guards, intending to end everything in the lake atop the peak. Yet, just as she was about to sink to the bottom of the lake, a figure had suddenly appeared, acting like a wisp of warm sunlight that dispelled the chill in her heart. That person was Qīn Zhāo, who had not only saved her but had even dispelled a portion of the frost poison within her body.
