Night fell, plunging the surroundings into silence. Only a few flickering, erratic green wisps of ghost fire danced among the trees, making the already gloomy forest even more terrifying. The moonlight was blocked by thick clouds, leaving everything pitch black. In the desolate wilderness, such a sight was enough to chill one to the bone. Lěng Yè peered closely and saw four pale-faced, red-cheeked little demons ahead, struggling to carry a sedan chair as they moved forward slowly. The scene was bizarre in the extreme. A moment later, seemingly dissatisfied with the demons' pace, the figure inside the sedan leaped out into thin air, floating lightly overhead. The person wore a red outfit and a red headscarf, but her limbs were as stark white as freshly whitewashed walls. Most noticeably, a small bell was tied around her left ankle. As the wind blew, the bell did not produce a pleasant chime, but rather a series of hair-raising screeches.
