Chapter 9

【The whole family ended up hanging on the wall in a neat row, with his head being the most hideous of them all.】 【Supposedly, it was his own subordinate—the man couldn't stand his spineless, bootlicking act and hacked it off himself.】
What! Third Prince’s face was a mask of shock. While he couldn't understand everything, he certainly understood that this little brat said his head would look the most hideous when he died. Su Mianmian watched him staring at her without blinking, sighing to herself: 【He really is a fool. No wonder he fell in love with the heroine after she cursed him out in front of his carriage.】 【The point is, if that carriage had actually hit someone, the heroine would have been right to scold him. But the driver was sent from the palace and his skills were top-notch; nobody was even hurt.】
Su Mianmian didn't get it. Su Mianmian was stunned. Did her Third Brother have some sort of secret, unspeakable fetish? He didn't even fall for women unless they scolded him.
Third Prince struggled to keep his hands from trembling, trying to comfort himself. This brat must be talking nonsense. He couldn't take her seriously. With that, he bolted out of the palace, completely forgetting the very reason he had come.
Xiyou looked completely bewildered. "What happened to the Third Prince?" He looked as if he had seen a ghost. Her little princess was exquisite, beautiful, and cute—the most lovely child she had ever seen. It couldn't have been the little princess who turned someone into that state. Could it be that she herself was too ugly and had scared him? Xiyou touched her face with a serious expression, and as soon as she returned, she honestly reported the matter to Imperial Concubine Chun. Imperial Concubine Chun looked at her rigid, serious-minded maid and burst into uncontrollable laughter. "Xiyou, don't worry. You aren't ugly; otherwise, the little princess wouldn't let you hold her." After spending this time with her daughter, she had figured it out. Her little girl was a tiny flirt who loved anyone who looked good. Rather than saying Xiyou scared the Third Prince, it was more likely that her girl had been too infatuated with his appearance and scared him off.
Su Mianmian kicked her little feet, completely unaware that her mother was making up stories about her in her head. She was still foolishly shouting for "Pretty person, cuddle!"
After leaving the palace, Third Prince boarded his carriage. Still shaken, he gulped down a large mouthful of water to steady his nerves. As his carriage neared the Third Prince’s mansion, he let out a sigh of relief. "Whoa—" The driver suddenly yanked the reins hard, narrowly dodging a young girl who had darted out from a side alley. The driver wiped away sweat. It was fortunate that he was so experienced; anyone else wouldn't have managed to stay so composed. "What happened?" Third Prince’s voice trembled slightly. "It’s nothing, My Lord. Just a young girl who suddenly ran out. I made sure she wasn't hurt."
Just as they were about to leave, a woman dressed in goose-yellow robes stood in their way, looking furious. "You in the carriage, get down here!" The driver didn't dare let her shout, fearing it would disturb the Prince. He could only say politely, "Miss, is something the matter?" The woman scooped up a little girl and pointed angrily at the driver. "You frightened this poor child. Do you think you can just get away with it?" The driver, hearing no instructions from Third Prince, could only grit his teeth and take out some money. "Take this as an apology for the little girl." The woman looked insulted. "Get lost! Who wants your dirty money?" "Don't think that just because you have money and power, you can insult people like this." She stifled her disgust and patted the little girl. "Look at how scared this child is! If something happens to her, can you even afford the responsibility?" As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes, making her look pitiful and frail. "Tell your master to come down and apologize."
The little girl: *Actually, I think I'm fine.* The driver: *Speechless. He wanted to curse.* Even if she wanted an apology, shouldn't she be asking him? Why go after his master? It wasn't even his master holding the reins! Could this girl be blocking them simply because their carriage looked expensive and luxurious? This routine—honestly, as a veteran driver, he had seen it all before. But what could he say? His master’s head wasn't quite right; he was the type who loved this kind of thing. "My Lord, what should we do..."
If this had been any other time, Third Prince would surely have been interested enough to get out and banter with the young lady. But not now. "Go! Drive, hurry!" Run as fast as you can!! Don't come near me!!! Third Prince’s voice was filled with terror. The driver sensed something was wrong and immediately whipped the horses into a run. Thanks to his superb driving skills, the woman couldn't keep up at all. She was even forced to eat a mouthful of dust. *Pah, pah, pah—*
Jiang Wantang stood in place, wiping her face repeatedly, barely managing to clean it off. What was wrong with this Third Prince? Why didn't he follow the script from the book? She had waited here for so long for nothing. "Big sister, you said you would give me candy." The little girl looked at her with a dirty face and longing eyes. Jiang Wantang impatiently pushed her away. "Get lost, you brat." "Waaaah—" The little girl cried bitterly and ran off without looking back.
Third Prince didn't realize he was covered in cold sweat until he returned to his mansion. Everything that little brat said—it was all true. Did that mean his whole family really might end up with their heads chopped off? No, no, what little brat? That was his little princess! His little savior!
Su Mianmian, the subject of his thoughts, had a very satisfying nap, waving her tiny hands in her sleep. Over the past few days, she had discovered that the more she cultivated, the more she could learn. For instance, she could even know things that weren't mentioned in the original story. Right now, she only knew things related to herself, but once her cultivation improved, she would know everyone's secrets. It was effectively a new skill: gossip-gathering. Wow, she could jump around in fields of gossip every single day. She couldn't even imagine how sunny and cheerful she would become. She was even more motivated to cultivate now!
"Greetings, Third Prince." Hearing Xiyou’s voice, Imperial Concubine Chun and Su Mianmian both looked up, their eyes full of confusion. Third Prince stood under their gaze, smiling foolishly. "Greetings, Imperial Concubine Chun." He had a handsome face, and when he smiled, he easily made people feel close to him. Even though Imperial Concubine Chun knew this child had been raised by Consort Shu, she held no resentment toward him. Instead, she was curious about his intentions. Third Prince didn't play games; he stated his purpose directly. "This son has come to see my little imperial sister." 【You... you came here empty-handed?】 Su Mianmian pursed her little lips, looking at him with a scrutinizing gaze. What was this guy's deal? Was he being sincere or fake? In the original story, this guy was a total idiot. What if someone instigated him and he lost his mind and tried to hurt her? Hearing her little mouth mumbling nonstop, Third Prince felt his head buzzing. Afraid she would keep overthinking, he quickly interrupted. "I saw my imperial sister yesterday and felt very fond of her, so I went back and prepared a gift for her." 【What is it?】 Third Prince hurriedly produced a small box. "It’s just some trivial items for my sister to play with." Imperial Concubine Chun was about to smile and take it, but Su Mianmian’s little paws suddenly began to wave vigorously.
