On a cliffside along the edge of the hunting grounds, there was a triangular ledge formed by years of crumbling rock and debris, now blanketed in fallen leaves.
This was where Mei Gongxue and the others had landed.
The three of them were in a wretched state. Their faces were smeared with filthy mud, and their clothes were a truly miserable sight. Mei Gongxue was still trembling; until today, she had only known of tigers from books. Facing one in the flesh was a completely different experience. If the beast stood on its hind legs, it would be over a person’s height, and a single paw was the size of her entire hand. She dared not imagine what would have happened had she been pounced upon. Fortunately, she had been holding a lit torch and instinctively used it to drive the creature back. The tiger, however, seemed undeterred, closing in with every step. Mei Gongxue had retreated until her foot found nothing but air, and she tumbled into a pit. The tiger followed, but the impact, combined with the ground already softened by the morning’s rain, caused the pit to collapse, sending them all over the edge.
