When Mei Gongxue regained consciousness, she felt nauseated and suffered from a splitting headache. Only after a few moments did she remember what had happened before she fainted. She tried to stand, but discovered her hands and feet were bound, and her limbs had long since gone numb. The world before her was pitch black, and the air carried a faint, earthy scent. Fear surged through her like a violent tide; her mind was a jumbled mess of terrifying thoughts. Who were these people? What was their purpose in dragging her here? Did anyone outside know she was in danger? Would anyone come to rescue her? Perhaps it was merely her imagination, but the very act of breathing felt stifled in this place.
