"Yuanchun, my family is poor and we can't afford the bride price. How about... how about we break up?" Chen Shengjun looked miserable, his face etched with reluctance.
While absorbing the original owner's memories, Yuanchun stared at Chen Shengjun and spoke coolly, "Chen Shengjun, you're saying we should break up?"
Chen Shengjun nodded in great distress, his voice choked with emotion, "Yuanchun, I don't want to break up with you either. I can't bear to lose you, but I can't be selfish. I can't hold you back..."
Chen Shengjun was very handsome, with a high, straight nose and well-shaped lips of perfect thickness. He had the kind of square jawline that women of this era found most attractive. His eyes were large and appeared filled with deep affection; when he looked at Yuanchun, they seemed to hook into her heart like a pair of barbs.
*Pah...*
*Pah, pah, pah...*
She was no simpleton like the original owner, ready to be ensnared by such a dramatic performance. Having spent ten years in the post-apocalyptic world, Yuanchun had seen every type of man imaginable. A guy like this wouldn't even be fit to carry her shoes back in the apocalypse.
Chen Shengjun paused deliberately as he spoke, but seeing Feng Yuanchun remain unmoved, he grew anxious. With two sharp slaps, he struck his own face. "Yuanchun, I’ve failed you. I’m sorry. I’m not a man, I deserve this. I... boo-hoo, I really have no choice. My family is too poor; we can't come up with the one-hundred-yuan bride price..."
He suddenly dropped to his knees and began to wail.
"Yuanchun, it’s all my fault for being so useless. Boo-hoo, you’re such a good girl. Once you leave me, you’ll definitely be able to marry someone better. I... even though I love you dearly and want so much to marry you, I... I can't be selfish. I have no choice but to break up with you in agony..."
"Boo-hoo, Yuanchun, we can't be together in this life. In the next life, I’ll be born into a better family, and then I will definitely marry you."
For a grown man to weep so bitterly over a woman—his acting was truly superb. It was no wonder the original owner, that naive fool, had been moved to throw herself into his arms, giving her body to this scumbag, only to end up with her family destroyed and herself killed by him and his mistress.
It was a pity, however, that the current Feng Yuanchun was no longer the original owner. She was a post-apocalyptic expert here to complete a mission. No matter how spectacular the scumbag’s performance was, Yuanchun remained completely indifferent.
Well, not entirely. She did have feelings.
After finishing the absorption of the original owner's memories, Yuanchun sighed inwardly. The deaths had been too tragic. Every member of the original owner's family had suffered a horrific end, each more miserable than the last. It was no wonder the original owner’s hatred had reached its peak, leading system 007 to pull her in and grant her a chance to fulfill her wish.
Having absorbed the memories and feeling the original owner's overwhelming hatred for the scumbag, Yuanchun felt a surge of rage. She raised her hand, intending to strike him down with her Lightning Ability.
"Host, don't be impulsive," 007 urged in a panic. "Host, this ordinary minor world doesn't possess strong energy. If you use your Lightning Ability and the Heavenly Dao of this world catches wind of it, you will be instantly crushed."
Yuanchun hurriedly withdrew her power, a dark line forming on her forehead. "Why didn't you say so sooner?"
That was close.
It was *that* close.
She had almost been wiped out by the Heavenly Dao—and not just a physical death, but a total erasure of her soul, leaving not even a fragment behind.
"How was I supposed to know the Host was so fierce?" 007 defended itself, sounding aggrieved. "You wanted to blast your enemy with lightning the moment you arrived."
Then, it earnestly advised, "Host, the original owner has a family. You cannot alter the persona or they will become suspicious. Also, about your abilities: it’s best not to use them at all. If you absolutely must, use only a tiny amount—something that won't be detected by the Heavenly Dao."
"Understood."
