The forest after nightfall was silent and deep. A desolate moonlight filtered through the canopy, dappling the woodland in a mottled shadow. In the distant valley, the shrill cry of a bird echoed from time to time, adding a sense of eeriness to the quiet night. I sat inside my tent. Alice had fallen fast asleep beside me, but I tossed and turned, unable to find rest. My mind was consumed with thoughts of the Frozen Stone Moth and Wugalu. Of those infected with Wugalu, save for the one we had been forced to put down, the remaining two still ran low fevers. They did not look critical, but no one could say when they might transform. For safety, they had been isolated from the main force, with guards specifically assigned to watch them.
