Chapter 33

My suspension did not last very long, and two weeks later I was back at work. While not having to work was quite pleasant, the administrative system of a prestigious institution like Alisa Academy is extremely strict. A high salary meant high expectations, and having missed two weeks of work, half of my monthly pay was directly deducted. Clutching my somewhat shrunken purse, I had a massive headache. If it were just me, it would be fine; I could tighten my belt and endure a little hardship, but Alice is currently in her growth phase. Although I lack the ability to provide her with expensive tonic ingredients for nourishment, basic nutrition still needs to be supplied adequately. Coupled with the fact that Alice already has a huge appetite—she practically eats twice as much as I do in a single meal—I was getting to the point where I could barely afford to feed her... I stared at last month's ledger and covered my face in helpless distress.
