The children finished their meeting and bustled out of the assembly hall in a noisy, laughing stream. Everyone looked excited, buzzing with anticipation for their very first military campaign.
That meeting had dragged on forever, eating up almost the entire morning's training time. Still, the training routines mostly consisted of basic physical conditioning. For some reason, even though these kids all had a rebellious streak to varying degrees, they were remarkably obedient to me, working hard without a single complaint. While there was no time left for a makeshift session of practical combat drills, I didn't have to worry too much about anyone's safety.
