"Since we can't figure out what did this, there's no point in wasting time here. If we fall behind schedule, it might mean more than just going a day without water—our situation will become very precarious." Muhammad said this, gesturing to the soldiers. Four or five men stepped forward to drag the horse carcass into the bushes, clearing the main path.
My sense of unease intensified with the appearance of the horse carcass. Even an insect, facing death, would follow the instinct of life to flee and struggle, yet there wasn't the slightest trace of a struggle on this horse. Aside from blood and dust, not a single wound could be found anywhere on its body... It was as if, when the incident occurred, it hadn't even had time to resist before its belly was ripped open. Then, drained of blood and too exhausted to stand, it fell, and the monster that attacked it ultimately devoured its head.
"Don't you think there's something a bit strange about this carcass?" Muhammad whispered close to my ear.
