Chapter 134

If you looked down upon Westeros from a great height, using the Neck as a dividing line, the central and southern regions of The Reach would appear as a dense expanse of lush green and gold. Further south still would be the predominantly crimson mountains and hilly landscapes of Dorne. Across the entire continent, not a single region resembles The North, with its vast, desolate expanses dominated by pale white and dark green. North of Winterfell, the temperature gradually plunges to the absolute limits of human endurance. Past the Wall, it becomes completely unbearable, with bitter cold ranging from forty to over sixty degrees below zero. Under such conditions, only exiled wildlings can barely manage to survive. According to the stories, the King-Beyond-The-Wall once claimed that they had been the masters of this land for thousands of years—until the so-called King in the North arrived, built the Wall, and trapped them firmly in the frozen wastes alongside the Others. There is no point arguing over whose land this truly is; when all is said and white, might makes right.
