Chapter 319

1,139 words6 minutes read

Steward Yáng hurried to the side of Yang Yizhi’s bed, his brow furrowed in distress. "Young Master, you’ve finally awakened!" he cried out, sobbing. "You’ve been asleep for so long—no matter how I called, you wouldn’t stir. You had this old servant worried sick." Yang Yizhi stared at the wailing Steward Yáng, feeling utterly perplexed. He had merely had a bit too much to drink and fallen into a deep sleep; why was the steward acting as if he were about to be buried tomorrow? His mind was already foggy from sleep, and under the steward’s frantic commotion, Yang Yizhi felt only more disoriented. "Where is Moyi? I haven't seen a trace of him for ages." Moyi was the one who usually attended to him personally; Steward Yáng was getting on in years and mostly just supervised things. Furthermore, after his last argument with his father, his father had, without a word, transferred Steward Yáng away for a few days. The fact that he hadn't even consulted him about it had only deepened Yang Yizhi’s resentment toward his father. He detested such dictatorial behavior—even from his own father. For months, he had been nursing a grudge, stubbornly refusing to yield on the matter of marriage, no matter who tried to persuade him.
