Vendors tried to outdo one another with their rising and falling shouts. Anyone passing by would stop for a second look because of their calls, and the vendors would enthusiastically pitch their wares with an attitude as warm as if they were meeting long-lost relatives. With so many goods for sale in the market, things tended to repeat, and people's hard-earned money didn't blow in on the wind. They always liked to shop around, buying wherever things were cheapest and of the best quality, refusing to be easily fooled by a sweet tongue.
