With the few vegetables she had picked, Madam Chen prepared to head home. There wasn't much today—just a few eggplants, a handful of string beans, and a small jar of pickled vegetables she had brought along. Since picking too much meant the produce would go to waste or spoil, she and Mrs. Cao had agreed that she would come by every two days to harvest. Before leaving, Madam Chen glanced through the window from a distance at Zhang Shi, only to realize that after just a few days, he had withered away significantly. Fearing she might make him uncomfortable, she didn't linger long enough to be spotted and quickly walked away. She wanted to help the Zhang Family, but she knew nothing about treating leg injuries and could only fret in silence.
