After finishing lunch, Zhao Yan took on the heavy responsibility of decocting the medicine for Madam Wang. While the medicine was brewing, he began portioning out the remaining herbs according to the required ratios, wrapping each dose in cloth to keep them organized. Since they were heading home that day and Madam Wang’s condition required consistent medication for recovery, Zhao Yan had to prepare the doses in advance so that Chen Hua could simply decoct them for her later. However, the garments were extremely tattered, with nearly every piece covered in patches or irreparable holes. After a careful inspection, Zhao Yan managed to salvage five pieces of cloth that were somewhat intact; the rest were so ragged that Zhao Yan reasonably suspected the herbs would just leak right through them.
