I rubbed my heavy, sleep-filled eyes with great effort. Ouch—this bed was as hard as a washboard, poking me all over and making me thoroughly uncomfortable. "A sacrifice? What the hell?" I muttered, struggling to adjust to the darkness. The air was thick with a decaying stench, like an ancient tomb that hadn't been ventilated in centuries, enough to turn anyone's stomach.
