Jing Renyi did not want to say another word at this point. Given how things had turned out, his elderly mother hadn't even thought to ask whether Luor was dead or alive, yet she was still worried about his second younger brother's family?
He snorted from his nose. "Old Zhang! Send the Old Madam to the estate, and make sure you instruct them to take good care of her. If anything happens to the Old Madam, I will hold you responsible!"
No matter how the Old Madam wailed and beat her chest in despair, Jing Renyi turned a deaf ear and returned to the main courtyard. His precious son was still lying in bed!
He had to go and share the good news with his son!
Meanwhile, Jing Luoluo was lying in bed with his eyes wide open. The courtyard he stayed in was extremely spacious, and none of the commotion from the rest of the estate had filtered in, so he was completely unaware of what had happened outside.
Upon learning that he had woken up, the nanny who had served him since childhood walked in carrying a tray of food.
"Little Young Master, the nanny told the kitchen to simmer some ginseng chicken soup. Come on, you've been lying in bed for days, drink up a bit!"
Jing Luoluo searched his memories and recognized the nanny before him as the one who had come from the palace; the original owner had been looked after and raised by her since childhood.
He sat up from the bed, about to get down.
Seeing him get up, the nanny hurriedly placed the food box in her hands onto the table, chattering away anxiously, "Oh dear, my little ancestor, how can you get out of bed like this? Your head is wrapped in gauze, mind your wound!"
Jing Luoluo didn't mind it at all. Knowing that the nanny was simply concerned for the original owner, he split into a grin and said, "Nanny, it's fine! The estate physician has already checked it and said the wound is no longer an issue! It's just getting out of bed to eat, it's not that easy to hurt myself!"
Seeing that she couldn't win against the Little Young Master, the nanny could only carefully support him to the table, scoop up a bowl of steaming ginseng chicken soup, and hand it to him.
As a soul from another world, Jing Luoluo had lost her parents at a very young age. Having grown up in an orphanage and finally made it through college into the workforce, something as fine as ginseng chicken soup was naturally something she had never tasted before.
She picked up the bowl and took a sip. The savory richness of the chicken soup instantly conquered her taste buds. Though the ginseng was slightly bitter and not particularly tasty, she swallowed it all down in one go.
The nanny stood to the side with a face full of smiles, taking the bowl as she said, "The Little Young Master has just woken up, so it's not good to drink too much. Old servant will take this chicken soup back to keep warm by the little stove, and bring it over later when you want more!"
Just as they were speaking, footsteps sounded from outside. Lord Duke had successfully driven the troublemakers of the house out, and his mood was exceptionally good!
"My boy, the people who harmed you have all been driven away by your dad. From now on, no one in this estate will ever be able to push you around!"
Jing Renyi walked into the room and burst out laughing when he saw his son already sitting by the table, the empty bowl before him not yet cleared away!
"Good, as long as you can keep food down, that's fine. Your old man was worried this scrawny frame wouldn't even be able to get out of bed!"
A large hand slapped Jing Luoluo on the shoulder, making him wince in pain. Did this instant father of his have any idea how heavy his hand was?
An unnatural look surfaced on Jing Luoluo's face. "Dad, go easy, you almost slapped your son right back down!"
Realizing belatedly that his strength had been too much, Jing Renyi awkwardly withdrew his hand and told his son how he had dealt with those people.
Jing Luoluo listened in utter shock. "No wait, you got rid of them just like that? Dad, won't this cause trouble for you?"
Jing Renyi furrowed his brow; he wasn't entirely certain either. Then, his large hand slammed onto the table, giving the nanny—who was heading out with the food box—such a start that she gave a violent shudder.
She almost dropped the chicken soup!
Jing Luoluo looked doubtfully at his instant father. "Dad? Have you thought of a way?"
Jing Renyi raised an eyebrow and said, "His Majesty dotes on you the most. I'm going to take you into the palace right now to let His Majesty have a look at you. That should get your old man off the hook for the crime of unfilial behavior!"
Jing Luoluo was speechless. Was he going to drag him into the palace to play the sympathy card?
Before long, Jing Luoluo was wrapped up tightly and bundled into a carriage. The gauze on his head, which had originally been loosely wrapped, was now practically wrapped into a zongzi!
The carriage passed through the bustling streets and arrived before the palace gates. Seeing that the visitor was Lord Duke and that Jing Luoluo in the carriage was wrapped up like a mummy, the guards assumed he had suffered some grave injury! They promptly made an exception and allowed the carriage straight into the palace!
"My boy, once we reach up ahead, we'll have to get down and walk. Dad will carry you on his back!"
Jing Renyi's rough, oversized hands scooped Jing Luoluo out of the carriage like a chick and hoisted him onto his back. Settling his son firmly, he couldn't help giving him a slight bounce, and upon feeling that his son's backside had hardly any meat on it, he gave it a smack.
"You brat, you need to eat more. This backside is so skinny there's no meat left!"
The face of Jing Luoluo on his back flushed bright red. Even though this was the original owner's father, the soul inside right now was a girl!
Jing Luoluo covered his face in mortification. Damn it all, the transdimensional god messed up the gender, hey!
Following the grand eunuch all the way outside the Imperial Study, Jing Luoluo couldn't help pondering to himself how he should milk the sympathy once he saw His Majesty.
After the grand eunuch announced their arrival, he led the father and son inside.
The moment he entered, Jing Luoluo was dazzled by the luxury within the hall. Forgive him, an overworked corporate drone who had never even been to the Forbidden City.
It was wonderful to have money and power; the entire hall was gleaming with gold, exuding extravagance at every turn.
Jing Renyi gave his son a tug, dragging him down to kneel on the floor. What was wrong with this kid today? Acting like he had never seen the world!
Coming to his senses, Jing Luoluo prepared to kowtow along with his father when a majestic voice rang out from above: "Enough, enough, look at how Luor's head is wrapped up. Someone, quickly grant them seats!"
A junior eunuch attending nearby hurriedly brought over chairs for the two of them to sit. As soon as he sat down, Jing Luoluo raised his head to look up at the throne.
In his memory, His Majesty was about the same age as the original owner's father, yet the gap between the two of them was vast. At first glance, the original owner's father looked ridiculously old!
Emperor Hengwu's face was full of majesty, yet at the moment he beckoned to Jing Luoluo quite amiably. "Luor, come over here and let me take a look. Why is your head wrapped up like this? Has the imperial physician seen it?"
Jing Luoluo obediently stepped forward a few paces so Emperor Hengwu could see him clearly, his little mouth starting right up.
"Your Majesty, actually my head is mostly wrapped up by my dad. It's already much better now, not hurting nearly as much as before!"
With that, he pulled away the layers of gauze wrapped around his head, leaving only the single layer the estate physician had originally applied, on which some dried blood was faintly seeping through, looking rather gruesome.
"My word, this head injury is not light. Someone, summon the imperial physician to take a look at this lad!"
The meaning behind Emperor Hengwu's tone could not be discerned, leaving Jing Luoluo with no choice but to handle it with utmost care!
"Your Majesty, are you going to blame my dad?"
This out-of-nowhere question left even Emperor Hengwu stunned, and Jing Renyi hurriedly dropped to his knees. "Your Majesty, your subject is guilty, I beg Your Majesty to punish me!"
Looking at the father and son before him, Emperor Hengwu burst into hearty laughter. "Hahaha, Luor, why don't you tell me what crime your old man has committed?"
Jing Luoluo chuckled and said, "Isn't it because a few days ago Luor had his head smashed open by someone? After I woke up and found out who the culprit was, my dad got furious and chased them off to the estate!"
Emperor Hengwu narrowed his eyes slightly. "That person is your grandmother?"
Jing Luoluo's eyes lit up in praise. "Oh? Your Majesty, how did you know? I hadn't even said who it was yet!"
"Hahaha, you brat stick your bottom up, and you think I don't know what kind of scheme you're pulling?"
Jing Luoluo quickly pressed his advantage while the iron was hot. "Hehehe, it's just that grandmother conspired with my second uncle's family to try and get me killed. My dad was simply too furious, so..."
