Chapter 764

Looking at the houses nearby—small Western-style villas much like her own—Fu Yurou realized with a start that, by some strange coincidence, they were going to be neighbors. The area where Fu Yurou lived was a small enclave, consisting of only about a dozen buildings. It wasn't fully occupied; at the very least, the houses immediately to her left and right were vacant. Ordinarily, everything was supposed to be distributed fairly at a time like this, regardless of whether a house was good or bad. But then again, privilege existed everywhere. These houses had been kept aside, and although they appeared unoccupied, no one could say for sure whose they really were. Fu Yurou didn't ask questions; she knew these belonged to the Ling family, though they certainly weren't registered under the family name. It was just like the siheyuan courtyard in Beijing—some good things always managed to remain in the right hands. Fu Yurou glanced outside, then pulled the curtains shut, rubbing her aching lower back. Internally, she addressed the System: "System, help me ask the doctor if there’s anything I can do for my condition." That damn man, he didn't know how to restrain his strength—was he treating her like a wooden post to be pounded? Unfortunately, the doctor wasn't online. She often worried that the woman might drop dead from overwork, leaving her without a free doctor, but since she was usually on call 24/7, she had no choice but to wait until she logged back on.
