But for the moment, she could not worry about that. Even in the dead of winter, she was breaking into a constant sweat. Deep inside, a burning fever made her want to submerge herself in ice water. Fearing that her family might worry, she made an excuse about being too tired and went upstairs to rest.
Once back in her room, she took a shower, but the feverish sensation did not improve much. The strangeness of her body made her think she had fallen ill, so she reached back to check her own pulse. After much fuss, she concluded that while her body temperature was high and her heart rate accelerated, it did not seem like an illness. Yet, if she truly weren't sick, why was her head spinning, and why did it feel as though her reason had abandoned her?
It would be one thing if she were merely uncomfortable, feverish, and dizzy—she could have just taken some medicine and crawled under the covers. But right now, she felt a mix of disorientation and a strange, surging agitation. Ignoring health concerns and the biting winter chill, she flung the window open to let the cold night air hit her, while simultaneously downing several glasses of cold water.
