Huang Guilian was the first to rush forward after hearing the description of the "corpse." Overwhelming despair engulfed her. In a state bordering on madness, she shoved her husband aside, blocked the path of the women, grabbed their clothes, and shrieked, "Is it a boy or a girl? How old? What was he wearing? It couldn't be this tall! Tell me, it isn't, right?" The women were terrified and struggled to break free. Seeing she was dressed so well but had disheveled hair and a frantic, incoherent manner, they assumed she was a madwoman. The scene descended into chaos. Jiang Yan and Wang Zhang hurried over to separate them. Wang Zhang took the two women aside to explain the situation. When they heard that the child might be her missing son, the women’s expressions softened. It was no wonder she was acting so unnaturally; to have one’s only child at this age and then for something to happen—they would be driven mad too. However, since they weren't eyewitnesses and were simply repeating what they had heard, they could only share so much. But the fact that the ages matched caused everyone’s hearts to sink to the bottom.
