"Is this the White Elephant Country?"
Upon arriving in the White Elephant Country from the port, everyone looked at the "clean and hygienic" nation with a sense of speechlessness, desperately wishing they could leave immediately.
However, right at the port where the ship docked, a mob of locals swarmed around them, completely boxing them in.
Using the pretext of offering help, they badgered the group for money, while others tried to take advantage of the chaos to stealthily pick their pockets.
Faced with this situation, Joseph Joestar could only look helpless.
Trapped in the dense crowd with no way out, Jodio Joestar let out a cold snort. Instantly, his Conqueror's Haki erupted, radiating outward in all directions.
The outcome goes without saying: these ordinary locals stood no chance against the terrifying pressure of Conqueror's Haki and collapsed, passing out cold on the spot.
Seizing the opportunity, Jodio Joestar summoned The Winged Dragon of Ra, which absorbed the sunlight and burst forth with a blinding brilliance!
Taking cover in the glare, the group managed to slip away.
Once they had successfully escaped, Joseph Joestar said with a look of lingering relief:
"Mohammed Avdol, is this the passionate country you were talking about?"
"The situation back there was a bit too passionate, don't you think?"
Kakyoin, standing beside Jotaro Kujo, nodded in complete agreement and chimed in:
"Indeed. What just happened was utterly absurd."
"If Jodio Joestar hadn't reacted so quickly, we probably would have met our demise before our journey even truly began."
"We were mere seconds away from having our wallets stolen!"
Polnareff, who had a severe case of germaphobia, crossed his arms and said with a shudder of lingering terror:
"Too right. Those guys are out of their minds."
"Kakyoin, you almost lost your wallet, but I almost lost my innocence!"
"Back in that suffocating crowd, a few hideous, foot-scratching brutes actually tried to cop a feel."
"Thank goodness for my quick reflexes, or else my purity would have been compromised!"
Facing the chorus of complaints, Mohammed Avdol looked thoroughly embarrassed. Waving his hands with an awkward smile, he said:
"Is that so? I am so terribly sorry! Perhaps it's just a matter of perspective—I actually think this place is wonderful!"
"If you all felt uncomfortable, please accept my apologies for what happened!"
That said, while the previous ordeal had been unpleasant, it wasn't a catastrophe. Besides, it wasn't Mohammed Avdol's fault, so the others simply waved it off magnanimously and brushed the matter aside:
"Never mind, it's not your fault. It's no big deal!"
"Unpleasant as it is here, as long as we get out of this place quickly, we'll be fine!"
To lighten the mood, Jotaro Kujo stepped in directly to comfort Mohammed Avdol:
"It's nothing, Mohammed Avdol. No need to make such a big fuss over it."
"I actually think this place is pretty good. That bustling, lively atmosphere from earlier was rather charming, if you ask me."
"Don't take it to heart; it was just a minor incident!"
"Instead of dwelling on that, our priority right now should be finding a place to stay for the night."
"Otherwise, we'll be sleeping on the streets!"
Hearing this, Mohammed Avdol's expression improved considerably.
Seeking to change the subject, Joseph Joestar deliberately raised a hand to shield his eyes as he looked up at the sky, letting out a sigh:
"My goodness, Jotaro, you're right!"
"Before we knew it, it's getting dark again!"
"How about you guys wait here while I head to the phone booth across the street to make a call? I'll contact the SPW Foundation and ask where the best hotel is in Calcutta!"
"At the same time, we'll need to arrange our transportation for tomorrow."
"Once that's settled, we can check in directly, rest up, and resume our journey tomorrow."
With that, Joseph Joestar turned on his heel, walked over to the phone booth across the road, and placed his call.
About two minutes later, Joseph Joestar walked back with a confident grin!
He happily announced to the group:
"All set! I've already arranged our transport for tomorrow."
"I asked around, and the finest hotel in Calcutta is the Calcutta Grand Hotel. It's not far from here—just a few turns down the street."
Hearing this, the rest of the group had no objections and readily agreed to Joseph Joestar's plan.
Seeing everyone on board, Joseph Joestar was quite pleased.
He scooped up a handful of dirt from the ground, piled it together, and summoned his Stand, Hermit Purple, to track down the location of the Calcutta Grand Hotel!
Almost in the blink of an eye, Joseph Joestar pinpointed the hotel's exact whereabouts.
Recalling his Stand, he puffed out his chest and declared:
"I've found the hotel!"
"Follow me, everyone!"
With a wave of his hand, Joseph Joestar set off down the street.
Exchanging glances, the rest of the group fell in behind Joseph Joestar's lead and followed him forward.
After weaving through several alleys and a brief search, they soon located the so-called Calcutta Grand Hotel.
Led by Joseph Joestar, they went inside and inquired at the desk. There were plenty of vacant rooms left for the entire group.
Without hesitation, everyone picked a room for themselves and checked in.
Once they had settled their luggage, the group gathered together in the hotel restaurant.
Then, the debate over what to eat began.
Mindful of the White Elephant Country's world-famous reputation for being "clean and hygienic," they hesitated for ages, completely at a loss as to what to choose.
Mid-discussion, Polnareff suddenly felt a pressing urge. To take care of personal business, he stood up, waved a hand, and announced:
"You guys carry on discussing! I need to pay a visit to the restroom!"
"As for food, I have only two requirements: first, it must be thoroughly clean and hygienic; and second, it has to suit my refined French palate!"
With that, Polnareff headed toward the hotel washroom.
Those two simple requirements instantly threw Joseph Joestar, menu in hand, into deep confusion:
"Suit a French palate? What on earth does a French palate even mean?"
Sitting beside him, Kakyoin rested his chin on his hand, pondered for a moment, and said:
"When Polnareff mentioned a French palate just now..."
"I'm guessing he simply meant that whatever we eat next needs to be clean enough that he won't get food poisoning!"
Hearing this, a lightbulb went off in Jodio Joestar's head:
"Ah, I see! In that case, this should be easy!"
Wishing not to miss out on a legendary moment, Jodio Joestar stood up from his chair and headed toward the washroom as well.
Meanwhile, Polnareff had already stepped into the men's restroom. In the corner by the bank of sinks sat a waiter on a small stool, flipping through a book next to a pile of wooden sticks.
Seeing Polnareff enter, the waiter handed him one of the sticks and said in a measured tone:
"If you're planning to use the restroom, this might come in handy."
With that, he returned his attention to his book, reading with great absorption.
Polnareff stared at the long stick in his hand, completely baffled. He couldn't possibly fathom why one would need a stick just to use the toilet, nor what purpose it could possibly serve!
Puzzled as he was, Polnareff clutched the stick and dutifully made his way into a stall.
The moment he stepped inside, Polnareff's eyes immediately locked onto the toilet bowl.
Being a man with a severe case of germaphobia, he could not tolerate filth.
Yet the toilet in this hotel completely exceeded his expectations: the bowl was impeccably clean.
While Polnareff was admiring the cleanliness of the facilities, Jodio Joestar also entered the restroom.
He headed straight for the urinals!
Less than half a minute later, Jodio Joestar finished up and was washing his hands when he glanced over his shoulder and saw Polnareff bolt out of a toilet stall looking utterly panicked.
Trembling, Polnareff pointed back at the stall and stammered to the attendant sitting outside:
"It's bad! In the toilet... in the toilet there's..."
Before Polnareff could even finish, the waiter—clearly well-accustomed to this routine—understood the situation instantly!
He rose from his stool, calmly set his book aside, and walked toward the restroom.
A thoroughly panicked Polnareff and a freshly-hand-washed Jodio Joestar followed him inside.
There, looking up from inside the toilet bowl, was a massive pig's head.
This was precisely what had terrified Polnareff.
Seeing the patrons approach, the waiter picked up the very same stick he had handed to Polnareff from the corner of the wall and calmly explained:
"This is completely normal. The reason I gave you that stick earlier is to handle precisely this situation."
"Directly behind this restroom is the hotel's pigpen. Because the plumbing for the toilets here is both wide and shallow, the pigs from the pen frequently crawl up through the pipes and into the toilets."
"And the purpose of this stick is to beat those pigs right back down!"
With that, the waiter raised the stick in his hand and gave the pig's head in the toilet a sharp, resounding whack, forcing it back down the pipe.
Witnessing such an absurd spectacle, Polnareff and Jodio Joestar were left utterly dumbfounded.
Though they had already seen it in the anime, experiencing it in real life was an entirely different universe!
Faced with this galaxy-brained operation, Jodio Joestar desperately wanted to shout an obscenity and give the locals a firm thumbs-up.
You simply had to hand it to them for such miraculous engineering.
Just as the waiter was about to turn and leave, Polnareff noticed another critical problem.
Calling out to stop the waiter, he asked:
"Excuse me, where is the toilet paper in this restroom?"
"I looked everywhere just now, and there's not a single roll to be found!"
Faced with this perfectly normal question, the White Elephant Country waiter looked at him with utter confusion:
"Toilet paper? What toilet paper?"
"This restroom doesn't use toilet paper, sir. Once you're done with your business, you simply stick your rear end out and let the pig's head from the connected pipe lick you clean with its tongue!"
"It's clean, hygienic, and environmentally friendly. This clever solution is the proud result of our people's ingenuity!"
Having said his piece, the waiter strolled off casually with his stick in hand.
Leaving the two stunned men frozen in place, utterly traumatized.
After the waiter left, Polnareff turned his head mechanically and asked Jodio Joestar in a voice questioning the very fabric of reality:
"Jodio, did you hear what he just said?"
"Do I seriously have to do that?"
"I refuse to try something that insane!"
By this point, a thoroughly traumatized Jodio Joestar was regretting his life choices to his very core.
Had he known better, he never would have come to gawk at this legendary scene.
Subjected to such psychological torture, he had sustained severe mental scars.
Jodio Joestar could never look at a toilet the same way again.
So, in response to Polnareff's plea, Jodio Joestar could only nod heavily.
Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a pack of pocket tissues, handed them silently to Polnareff, and gave him a look that clearly said, *May God have mercy on your soul.*
Finally, unable to bear it a second longer, Jodio Joestar fled the hotel restroom like a man possessed and stumbled back out into the lobby.
Leaving Polnareff behind to endure a fate worse than death.
Meanwhile, back in the restaurant, the rest of the group was sipping milk tea while waiting for their dinner to be prepared.
They looked with profound puzzlement at Jodio Joestar, who had returned to his seat wearing a thoroughly unnatural expression.
Joseph Joestar opened his mouth to ask what had happened.
Only for Jodio Joestar to raise a hand and cut him off:
* "Don't ask me, I don't want to talk about it!"
* "If you want to be able to stomach your meal tonight, do not ask what just happened in there!"
* "Trust me on this—if you ask, you'll regret it for the rest of your lives!"
The Joestar group knew Jodio Joestar's temperament well enough to know he wasn't one to make idle threats.
Seeing the grim solemnity of his expression, and recalling the wild rumors surrounding the White Elephant Country, they instantly stamped out every ounce of curiosity and dared not utter another word.
Starving as they were, none of them wanted to be too disgusted to eat.
About ten minutes later, Polnareff finally dragged himself back from the restroom.
Upon his return, he didn't utter a single word, simply sitting in his chair in a vacant daze.
Fellow victims of the same tragic fate, Jodio Joestar understood Polnareff's agony completely. He cast a sympathetic glance in Polnareff's direction and kept his mouth shut.
The mental damage from earlier had been catastrophic; they both needed a lengthy recovery period just to regain their wits.
And so, Jodio Joestar and Polnareff sat blankly in their chairs for a long while before their spirits finally began to return.
By the time they had recovered, the hotel was practically ready to close for the night.
Left with no other choice, Jodio Joestar and Polnareff ordered some bread and milk prepared by a local chef, scarfing it down just to barely fill their empty stomachs.
Stuffed and exhausted, the two of them shuffled back to their rooms like walking corpses.
Fortunately, the housekeeping in the hotel rooms wasn't handled by the locals, so the place was reasonably clean.
Lying on the bed, Jodio Joestar silently swore an oath to get the hell out of this cursed place at the earliest possible moment!
Furthermore, he vowed never to set foot in this country again as long as he lived!
He also resolved that when the time came to face Dio, he would make damn sure to settle this score properly.
Subjecting him to such horrific psychological warfare had left him with mental scars that might never truly fade.
There was no way he was letting this go lightly!
Nursing these thoughts, Jodio Joestar slowly drifted off to sleep.
