Su Mengcheng paced back and forth upstairs, feeling anxious. Ever since her aunt arrived and began arguing with Mother Su, she had been hiding behind her bedroom door, eavesdropping. Later, she saw Mother Su and Su Qianli whispering to each other before heading into the master bedroom on the first floor. Su Mengcheng cracked the door open just a sliver, leaning in, desperate to hear what they were saying. Most of the time, the voices inside were muffled, and she could only catch disjointed, unrelated outbursts of emotion when Mother Su became agitated. The thought of what she had done to Su Qianli in the past made her heart race; she still hadn't accounted for those actions. She was filled with worry, convinced that Su Qianli and Mother Su were conspiring downstairs, perhaps plotting their revenge against her. She told herself she could not sit by and wait to be destroyed; she had to find a way to break this stalemate. Her mind raced, a whirlwind of chaotic thoughts. Downstairs, Su Qianli carefully helped Mother Su onto the bed and soothed her in a soft voice: "Mom, don't overthink things. Just get some real rest. When Dad gets back, we’ll discuss how to arrange things for the future."
