The only problem was that I wasn't familiar with the evacuation routes! Since this was right on the edge of someone else's Royal City, opening a Spacetime Gate recklessly would get me discovered. If I really wanted to kill someone and then open a gate, I'd have to run a good distance away first.
As the overlord faction of an entire universe, being a little careful was only right. If I really got cornered, I'd just have to fight my way through. Losing a few Battle Beasts wouldn't be the end of the world anyway.
