The history of the Divine Tree goes back a long way. To this day, most people in the world assume it is merely a legend existing in ancient texts, and those who have truly seen it are exceedingly few. According to the Classic of Mountains and Seas and the accepted accounts of revered predecessors among the Outsiders, the tree was nurtured by a meteorite that crashed onto Earth in ancient times. After tens of millions of years of evolution, five Divine Trees were ultimately born. The energy they radiate has, over the course of vast epochs, gradually diffused and influenced the entire world—first giving rise to three ancient gods, and subsequently spawning the very first batch of Outsiders between heaven and earth. Based on Wu Xie's years of research, these five Divine Trees each represent different powers: the Phoenix Tree in the Queen Mother of the West Palace at Tamuto represents "Life"; the Dragon Peach of Qinling represents "Creation"; the Underworld Willow of the Ancient Gobi represents "Soul"; the Cloud Pagoda Tree inside the Zhang Family Ancient Building is "Power"; and the Spirit Elm, which was seized 1,500 years ago as Mo Shanshan's Natal Object, is considered to symbolize "Knowledge."
